What is the mission and vision of your organisation?
Our mission is to provide culturally sensitive, high-quality aged care services to the diverse communities of Western Sydney. Our vision is to become a leading provider of person-centred aged care, ensuring dignity, comfort, and respect for every elder in our care.
Who founded the organisation, and what inspired its creation?
AUWAL Care was founded by a group of professionals and community leaders who recognised the need for culturally appropriate aged care services in our area, so that older people from all backgrounds can age with dignity among people who understand them.
What specific needs does your organisation aim to address?
We aim to meet the needs of elders from culturally and religiously diverse backgrounds, including culturally appropriate meals, quiet spaces for prayer and reflection, gender-specific care options, and social activities that reflect residents' heritage and interests. While we have particular expertise in caring for Muslim elders, our services are open to and designed for people of all faiths and cultures.
Where will your facilities be located in Western Sydney?
We are currently raising funds for multiple locations across Western Sydney so that we can serve communities throughout the region. We are considering areas that offer easy access for families.
What types of services will you initially offer, and do you plan to expand these services in the future?
Initially, we plan to offer residential aged care services. In the future, we hope to expand to include home care and respite care.
How can community members get involved or support the establishment of your organisation?
We welcome community involvement through volunteering, participating in our fundraising events, and helping to spread awareness about our services.
What qualifications and experience do the founders and key staff members have in aged care and community services?
Our team includes experienced social workers and administrators with extensive experience in both professional and community services.
How will you ensure that your services are culturally and spiritually appropriate for residents of all backgrounds?
We are developing our care protocols in consultation with cultural and faith leaders, community representatives, and experienced healthcare professionals from a range of backgrounds. This ensures our services respect the traditions, values, and individual preferences of each resident.
What steps are you taking to recruit and train staff who understand the cultural and spiritual needs of our elders?
We are partnering with local organisations and educational institutions to recruit staff from across our diverse community and provide comprehensive cultural competence training.
